63rd Psalm Redux
O God, thou art my God; early will I seek thee: my soul thirsteth for thee, my flesh longeth for thee in a dry and thirsty land, where no water is;
2 To see thy power and thy glory, so as I have seen thee in the sanctuary.
3 Because thy lovingkindness is better than life, my lips shall praise thee.
4 Thus will I bless thee while I live: I will lift up my hands in thy name.
5 My soul shall be satisfied as with marrow and fatness; and my mouth shall praise thee with joyful lips:
6 When I remember thee upon my bed, and meditate on thee in the night watches.
7 Because thou hast been my help, therefore in the shadow of thy wings will I rejoice.
8 My soul followeth hard after thee: thy right hand upholdeth me.
9 But those that seek my soul, to destroy it, shall go into the lower parts of the earth.
10 They shall fall by the sword: they shall be a portion for foxes.
11 But the king shall rejoice in God; every one that sweareth by him shall glory: but the mouth of them that speak lies shall be stopped.
This is my favorite Psalm. Respectful, hopeful, and to the point. I use Bible Gateway to find verses from the Bible. Every rewrite, edit, and understanding is in the many versions found there, and while some lend clarity, frankly some are like listening to a rapper sing “I Saw the Light!” However, in the spirit of freedom of speech, and in recognition of the twists and turns of modern English I’d like to give my rendition of this hit from King David and I hope I find common ground with some. Here goes:
1 You are God! End of sentence. I think about you all day. You are like a bottle of Ozarka Water at a high school football game. And I’ve been to the desert, so I know what I’m talking about.
2 You are everywhere in everything. Worse than Elon Musk who finds illegals even in church.
3 But you’ve always been good to me so I’m not gonna bad-mouth you.
4 Because of that I will respect your name all my life.
5 You are like Bar B Q brisket that lingers on my tongue.
6 I go to bed still thinking about you and dream about you all night.
7 You’ve always been there for me, and I am happy to hang with you.
8 I try to do everything you ask because you always have my back.
9 But Those who hurt me or mine can just go to hell!
10 I will shoot them with my Colt Peacemaker and leave them out in the woods.
11 But as for you and me? We cool and everyone who agrees is gonna be alright, but them that don’t need to meet me in the parking lot!
Amen
