He is Bigger Than any Book

 

 

Why do you worry about God? Of course there is a creator, because you can see a creation, and naturally assume there had to be a cause. But do you really believe that He is taking His time waiting for you to make a mistake so He can punish or reward you, because if you make a mistake He waits like and angry schoolmaster with a switch? And on the last day He counts your stripes. Your time on earth is not gonna mean a thing 10 minutes after your dead! So, why should you demand the undivided attention of the creator of all that is seen or unseen? Of course He could do it, but why? Why, when He made you fully equipped for day-to-day maintenance and problem solving? It says right there in that bible you revere so much that after God created man He said, “I made it, you run it!”

   Consider the day you die. Preparations for your funeral will be made. Either your survivors’ grief or your ego will be on display. Dead is dead. My son paid for my funeral. All expenses paid. I got to pick out my own casket. Tried it out for fit. Then I had a second thought. I saw a video describing the decay of a body. The part that got to me is when you turn green. So, I adjusted the festivities. My funeral is not gonna be the usual. I was gonna leave my body to science, but I am not gonna do that. I am going to be cremated and have the last mortician out of the building going home that night throw me into traffic on the freeway because that’s where I spent most of my life and I’ll be among friends on I-14. They can drive by McDonald’s on the way to work and wipe a tear from their eye in my memory. But I will not be turning green, waiting for some archaeologist to put me in a bone box in the basement of some museum two-thousand years from now. At any rate I am quite sure that God will be unimpressed with the whole thing, and the universe will continue to spin as planned.

 So, please do not think you are anything special. You can go your entire life following all the rules of some religion and imagine that you are gaining points for the afterlife when more than likely after you die, you will turn green and end up in an ossuary.

And for all your faith and forgiveness, you will never be able to justify all the things you did during your tenure as one of the custodians of God’s creation, and you will have missed life because you were too busy worrying that  God was going to catch you if you didn’t follow the rules just right. Did you think the preacher would give back what you drop into the collection plate?

And did you follow the rules? I mean all the rules. Jesus said that if you even think adultery, you may as well go for it. I hate to be the one to tell you, but there ain’t that much Viagra in the pharmacy! Yet you follow the rules ordained by men telling you that they have a hot line to God! You are not living your life you are living their life. You are living Joseph Smith’s life! Don’t go near windows in the county jail! How many wives did God tell him to marry? Hey, I’m not judging. He wrote his own Bible, founded a church, and adjusted the age of consent. Nice work if you can get it. David had how many? And concubines!  Still shacked up with Bathsheba after he saw her taking a bath. Wonder what her name would have been if she had been using the toilet? Just a speculation. The Apostle, Paul said that a leader of the church should be the husband of one wife. Could the unspoken be that there were some with more than one? And you can readily understand that any man with more than one wife would not have time to run a church. Jus’ sayin.’ But these are questions for greater minds than mine.

 But our question is; if there is a God, is He the creator isn’t He the one who designed everything you see? Does He have plans and does He act on trivial things, and if so, then why did he give you a mind and intellect if He didn’t expect you to use it? Wouldn’t He expect you to handle most circumstances on your own or do you expect him to cure every cold? Will you be punished for drinking wine on Sunday before church rather than during communion or for leaving one wife for another, or better yet, have two wives at the same time?

When you face these questions, you will find that you have a whole new sense of freedom and yet you can still believe in a creator. This is the atheist error. No God or all God. They think most religious people think God warms their car up every morning, and sadly, a lot of believers think that too, but why should He? I mean, He is omnipotent, but I think He’s got a lot more on His mind than your BMW, and besides that, you have the key. He’s more into running the universe than running your car. You already make mistakes with Him looking right at you and don’t forget, even thinking about her is a sin too! And just consider; what if this isn’t the only universe He made? Science is beginning to speculate that this universe that we find ourselves in is like one bubble in a cosmic glass of beer! And there are many bubbles in many glasses of beer all rising to the top while you read your Bible and worry about who’s gonna pay the bar tab. Stop worrying about that! Jesus picked it up. Free your mind of Tares and you will find that you have freedom to live your life if you don’t hurt other people. Do unto others as you would have them do unto you, not before they do unto you. Do things to make yourself happy because when you make yourself happy you make people around you happy, and if they aren’t happy then leave that little bit of dust from your shoes on their doorstep as you leave their cantankerous selves. You will find that people don’t care what you do so long as you don’t do it to them! They will worry about their own bubble. They will worry about what is going on in their own life. That’s what they will worry about. They won’t worry about what you’re doing unless you’re doing them! Just mind your own business and you’ll stay busy all the time. Just do that much! Never let your left hand know what your right hand is doing! Unless you’re clapping. That’s ok.

Book of Mormon, Bible, Qu’ran or Karma Sutra, all someone else’s ideas! God never grabbed anyone’s hand and forced him to write. All your inspired writings arrived through human intellect. Change my mind. No testament, old or new will exactly fit your situation. If you base your life on something that someone wrote five thousand years ago without filtering it through your own intellect, understanding all the translations between then and now, and yes, opinions, from other interpretations then you need to get on your jackass and ride into Jerusalem telling everybody you are there to solve the Mideast Crisis.
