You’d better start swimming or you’ll sink like a stone because times, they are a-changing.

 

Indeed, they are. They always are. We needed Trump. At least four more years of him. I went on the record yesterday defending immigrants. My opinion was purely Texan. Who’s gonna pick the cabbages? You? Kinda gotta get out of your safe room to go out and pick “C” words you know.

At other times this week I waxed elegant in psychology, theology, and the lesser sciences. I honestly don’t know where that stuff comes from. Usually, the first thing in the morning before coffee. When the lead story is a warning about a meteor hitting the moon it’s easy to move on.

Unless you are living under a big yellow rock you can see the train wreck America has become. We are morally vacant. People are more concerned about the Epstein List than kids still starving in Appalachia, and every letter in the alphabet has a forbidden word attached. The Father, Son, and Holy Ghost caught the last train for the coast a long time ago and the girl next door stands to pee.

But there’s hope, if you can call it that. Somewhere in the rubble lives the spirit of the forefathers. As my ancestor said in 1872, “Well, they’ll come for us now. We got to go to Texas, where there ain’t no law. And one hundred wagons of my family struck out for Moody Texas. A few years before that the other branch of our people headed for the Salt Lake Rim. Why? What did these people know that seems to have been forgotten? They knew that you can’t fix stupid. Stupid is all very fine for a circus but at some point you have to turn out the lights. The party’s over. The sad part is that we have to start over again, but that’s ok. Like the good book says, “There’s gonna be wailing and the gnashing of teeth,” but the foxes are waiting.
