The Devil’s Back Door

Image
I was watching a service this week where the pastor was getting on Joel Osteen and his Prosperity Theology. For the uninitiated let me explain the Reverend Osteen’s take on God. Cast thy bread upon the water and God will give you a B.L.T. Yeah. That’s about it. Pass the plate and praise the Lord! And if you believe that do I have a bridge for you!   You can justify just about anything by performing selective surgery on the Bible. “Out of Context” is the order of the day. The addition or subtraction of a single word can shift the meaning of a passage to make it conform to the message of any preacher who has an airplane to pay for. And the Devil is the best lawyer you’ve ever met.   Satan, Lucifer, Beelzebub, or Linda Blair, the song remains the same. You attract more flies with sugar than you do with salt, but all brownies have a pinch of salt. Sinning is fun. That’s why we do it. I should know. When it comes to sinning, I am a connoisseur. Here. Hold this brownie. Now, ...

Ever Heard of the Tex-a-Plex?

Image
Just in case you Yankees didn’t know   We all know the State of Texas is huge. Most don’t know about the TEX-A-PLEX. Do you?     The triangular region framed in by the cities of Austin, Dallas–Fort Worth, Houston, and San Antonio is experiencing a wave of growth of historic proportions more than anywhere in the world.   In 2020, the population of the Texas Triangle reached nearly 21 million.   the Texas Triangle contains five of the 20 largest cities in the U.S., and was home to more than 70% of all Texans: City of Dallas, City of Fort Worth, City of Austin, City of Houston and City of San Antonio   Dallas Fort Worth International Airport (DFW) is bigger than all of Manhattan! The The University of Texas at Austin is the third largest landowner in the United States.   San Antonio is bigger than New York City and Detroit combined.   Houston has a bigger population than Colorado and 34 other states.   Four of the top ten metro statisti...

Render Unto Caesar

Image
17  Tell us therefore, What thinkest thou? Is it lawful to give tribute unto Caesar, or not? 18  But Jesus perceived their wickedness, and said, Why tempt ye me, ye hypocrites? 19  Shew me the tribute money. And they brought unto him a penny. 20  And he saith unto them, Whose is this image and superscription? 21  They say unto him, Caesar's. Then saith he unto them, Render therefore unto Caesar the things which are Caesar's; and unto God the things that are God's.   Many laymen and theologians see this well-known passage and think that Jesus is separating church and state. However, in Rome of that day Caeser was the church and state. As usual there are many layers to scripture. First, of course, was the story, Pharisee tried to be clever and Jesus handed him his face. But the rest of the story is indicative of Jesus fullfilling the law just as He said while exposing the hypocrisy of the supposedly righteous leaders of the Temple.   First things ...

Demons and Democrats

I’ve been watching critiques of the movie The Exorcist lately. Back in ’73, when it came out, it scared the BeJesus out of me. Now I just watch it because I like to watch little girls talk dirty, but that’s just me. Anyway I’ve been drawing similarities between the world of 1973 and the current misnomer we call “modern” as opposed to the used to be, and my conclusions are alarming!   I truly believe that William Peter Blatty and William Friedkin were the two prophets straight out of The Book of Revelation. Along with Paul Simon, of course with his “Sounds of Silence” predicting the fall of all civilization with the birth of the iPhone. My entire perception of horror movies did a complete 180 when I saw Linda Blair puke up that split pea soup all over Jason Miller. My soul (If I ever had one) screamed, “Phuck THIS! which coincidentally was what Linda was screaming at the same time and at that moment she and I formed a spiritual union. Until that moment I did not know I was a ...
