September 10 12:23

 Rev Wilbur Witt

As this week winds down, America takes a breath. The nation didn’t know what 12:23 on September 10 would be. The death of a man. He was just a man. But then you realize how many times, scrolling, you seen him sitting in that booth on some street, challenging passers by to change his mind. Did you notice how, no matter your beliefs, or political views that you’d stop scrolling for just a bit, and something he’d say would stick?

Then, upon learning of his death, you suddenly realized that this was a deal changer. Something was different. Something was lost, and something was gained. Did you take into account that even on campuses where the philosophy was decidedly left, Charlie was greeted like a rock star? Even when he bested someone in debate it had become a badge it honor that they had debated Charlie! The kids were catching on. There was their very own superstar throwing hats to them. And what college could never teach them Charlie would!

It might confuse you, but Charlie knew his time was measured. It is good that he didn’t live to a ripe old age and we had to watch the ravages of time weaken his voice and dim his eye.  No! Charlie will be forever young. The kids will age. With his words cemented in their hearts and minds, they will impart him to their children and grandchildren. In the years that follow he will become a touchstone of faith. Students who were there that day will return to ask, “Why?” Students in years hence, yet to be born will go there to feel the presence of the non-graduate who led the graduates to the light. And tears will fall from eyes of those who never met him but had met his words. Just a man. One very special man. Good on you, Charlie Kirk!
